    Stumped - no spark

Correct, the test light didn't light. Opened the points and it does. Tested for spark and it's there!!! Thanks a million!

    Stumped - no spark

Cleaned off the points and with the points closed I'm getting about 60 mV on the neg coil terminal. Closer but not zero. At least this is progress. I'll keep at it and see if I can get it to zero, it's just too darn cold in the barn to work out there for any length of time.

    Stumped - no spark

Will do. Yes, it is now negative ground and the +/- are the actual markings on the coil.

    No resistor.

    Stumped - no spark

Good info. I looked up Kettering like you suggested which was helpful. I'll clean off the points as you suggest. Could my problem perhaps be that I'm not getting a good ground through the distributor body itself? I did paint the "new" dist. before installing it...

    Stumped - no spark

The back story is I've a '42 H, 12 volt I got from my late uncle. It was running fine, then not so good, then dead. Determined it had no spark and upon further investigation noticed the distributor wasn't rotating. I pulled it and not having been greased in who knows how long it stripped...

    Distributor advice needed

I need a new distribtor for my '42 H. Am I better off buying a new one like YT or Reliable Aftermarket sells for around $100, Steiner sells for something like $300 or should I look for a used one on Ebay. What has been your experience with any of these options? Many thanks.

    h distributor not turning

Got it apart. The shaft is bent, that's why it didn't want to come apart easily. Looks like I'll be needing to replace the dist..

    h distributor not turning

Took off the distributor and I can see distributor gear has some teeth missing. Also, the shaft doesn't spin so as you mention the centrifugal advance may have failed. Problem now is I can't get the distributor out of the drive housing, I expected it to just slide apart. There is a hole in...

    h distributor not turning

I have a 42H that was running good, then running bad now not running at all. While investigating found that the distributor is not rotating. How big of a problem do I have and how do I fix it??? Thanks.

    Different H hoods?

Did the dimensions of the hoods for the H change over the years? I have a '42 H and bought a used H hood and it doesn't fit. The gas tank end of the hood is shorter in depth than my old one by close to an inch.

    Different H hoods?

Update: Upon VERY close inspection the "new" hood had a very subtle bend in it and it wouldn't allow one of the J hooks to latch. It didn't follow the curve of the fuel tank. A couple hours of gentle coaxing with a dead blow hammer and a make-shift dolly moved things enough to allow it to fit.

    PTO install trick??

    Thanks, that did the trick!

    PTO install trick??

On my 42 H I had to remove the pto to replace some bearings in the rear end. All the bearing and seals are done and now I'm having a heck of a time getting the pto back in. It's the older style pto and I can't seem to get the shaft lined up to hole it fits into. Is there some trick to this or...
