    544 gas low/no oil pressure

Hi folks, I'm sitting here in the middle of a blizzard in SE North Dakota- glad to not be outdoors. I'm researching an issue I'm having with my gas Farmall 544. I have done more snow removal this winter than ever before in my life I swear- the little tractor is on a two stage snow blower and...

    544 gas low/no oil pressure

Thanks so much for the advice Jim, Regarding oil- I think 15w40 will work fine and then I can use the same oil for my 4020 diesel. You guys are great! Ben

    544 gas low/no oil pressure

Thanks, I appreciate this! I'll call my local dealer again tomorrow- funny they told me that CIH didn't make the gasket for my tractor. The part number will certainly help. Ben

    4020 PTO noise under load

I wanted to update this post for any other "newbies" who might have been searching for solutions to similar noise. This summer when my tractor was down and out I had to borrow a neighbor's 806 to hay. Guess what? Same darn noise when running the baler. I still can't quite tell where the sound is...

    Farmall 544 won't start

Good evening folks, I have a gas gear drive farmall 544- 1973 I think. Love this tractor! However... I am having issues with it not firing all of a sudden. I have good spark on the plugs and the points are set properly and aren't corroded. I've cleaned the carb recently (within the past...

    Fiat-Hesston 1150 hydraulic issue

Hi everybody, I just wanted to finish this topic with an update. It was indeed a red vs green hydraulic pressure issue compounded by a lot of gunk in one of the cylinders. I cleaned everything up, and funny enough, as long as I was moving along at a pretty good clip (i.e. bouncy- darned gophers)...

    Fiat-Hesston 1150 hydraulic issue

I appreciate all the replies! The couplers I have on the unit are pioneer right now (I took off my JD ends since my 4020 was out of commission for a while). I did use pioneer ends that I knew were working on another cylinder. So I'm pretty sure my end (there's only one for the lift) is good. I...

    Fiat-Hesston 1150 hydraulic issue

Thanks for the response- I'd wondered about that, forgot to mention that in my first post- so I replaced them  still no good. As a further note though, do you think it could just be my tractor with lower hydraulic pressure? I used a JD Diesel 4020 on this mower last year, the poor thing...

    Fiat-Hesston 1150 hydraulic issue

Hello folks, I find myself stymied by a problem with the hydraulic lift for my haybine. I'm hoping someone can enlighten me. I used the haybine with no problems last fall, and this year when I went to start cutting I couldn't get the thing to lift up at all. I was using a different tractor...

    4020 24V starter bendix disaster

I agree with you, jd2cylman, But the current starter seems (seemed) to insert where it was supposed to- when I measured the distance from ring gear to the mounting surface it matches what I measured on the fully extended bendix gear. I think maybe one of the previous starters was doing this...

    4020 24V starter bendix disaster

Hi WTW, Thanks for your response. As I mentioned in my other post with the picture, I took a video of the flywheel while turning it all the way around. I think you've got the problem pinned- unfortunately it looks like I'm looking at a new flywheel. My question for you, is if after I switch...

    4020 24V starter bendix disaster

https://drive.google.com/file/d/176EYhNzicKPZCEv1jJEcu0ZveIh53_ua/view?usp=sharing This is a pretty good representation of the bad areas. I recorded a video of the whole flywheel while I turned it by hand. I didn't realize there were two regions, each about 6-8 inches long, that clearly have...

    4020 24V starter bendix disaster

Unless I don't know that I understand what you mean, I don't think the flywheel is loose. It's still turning, and the whole engine turns over with it. There's nothing loose about the ring gear via the starter hole- I can't wiggle anything at least. If there's something else I should check...

    4020 24V starter bendix disaster

As an update and further question (for anyone)- I spoke to another old time tractor mechanic and he was speculating that I might need either a shim for my starter, or the solenoid might need to be adjusted. I'm going to measure the distance from the extended bendix gear to the mounting flange...
