Oliver 770 Diesel - Slow to Start

WONDERFUL! I don't know how else to even describe it. I put the new starter on yesterday. And just bumped it over to make sure I had the wires hooked up correctly. Engine cold and haven't had the battery on charge. Tractor fired right up just as quick as my cars do! I wish I had done this...

Oliver 770 Diesel - Slow to Start

Well I've only bought one and it was from MSF. I can't complain. I had questions and they were more than happy to help me make sure I got the right thing the first time. They were quick and knowledgeable with their answers. Shipping was fast (on their end, USPS screwed the pooch) and fair. That...

Oliver 770 Diesel - Slow to Start

Ordered a new gear reduction starter. Will let you all know what's going on once it's installed. Thanks for the info.

Oliver 770 Diesel - Slow to Start

This right here. Voltage dropped to 7.5 while cranking. So new question - rebuild/reaplce OE starter or go with an aftermarket gear reduction starter?

Oliver 770 Diesel - Slow to Start

We’ve replaced the cables in the last few years. I can’t see that being the issue.

Oliver 770 Diesel - Slow to Start

Our 770 diesel (well loved, well taken care of, but she's been worked hard) is really slow to start at times. Mainly when 'cold' starting. It only takes a few seconds - probably less than 20 - of cranking before the engine won't turn over anymore. The battery is good and reading 12.6v. However...

Oliver 770 Diesel Fuel Issues - Need Assistance

That’s very possible. Even likely. I doubt the tank has ever been cleaned.

Oliver 770 Diesel Fuel Issues - Need Assistance

2nd update - I ran the tractor for a few hours without any issues. Then I had an issue - seemed like the same. Starving for fuel. However, I had a neighbor come pull me back to the shop from about 1/2 mile away. I kept getting the tractor to restart only to cut off again. Three or four times...

Oliver 770 Diesel Fuel Issues - Need Assistance

I replaced this last night and it seems to have worked! I let the tractor idle/half throttle for 10 minutes or so without any hiccups.

Oliver 770 Diesel Fuel Issues - Need Assistance

I'm not sure how much - haven't put a gauge on the line. But it seems like enough. However, those pumps are pretty cheap and mine is pretty old, so I guess it wouldn't hurt to change it anyway.

Oliver 770 Diesel Fuel Issues - Need Assistance

Yes, I tried to take a picture of that but it didn’t save. It’s an electric clicker style pump. I can hear it running.

Oliver 770 Diesel Fuel Issues - Need Assistance

I'm having trouble with my 770 staying running. It ran fine all hay season last year. I started doing some mowing earlier this year and was having some fuel issues. I changed the two fuel filters, blew out the fuel lines, and I'm still having issues. It will barely stay running at all now. Where...

LEDs on a Positive Ground System

We also have a Ford 601 that's 6V and I have toyed with the idea of changing it to 12V. But can't really justify the cost for a tractor that we only put 10-15 hours a year on right now. If you can find information on that invertor/converter/non-ransformer, then send it may way. I need new lights...

LEDs on a Positive Ground System

Would I consider this? Yes. But why? Wouldn't that entail changing a lot of the parts - starter/gauges/wiring for just about everything? Is there a big benefit that I'm not thinking about by doing this?
