Raising a steer alone, by itself

I've got an opportunity to take on a rejected Angus bull calf. He's three days old, doesn't seem to be nursing in spite of the dams udder being huge. He's weak, but gotten about 2 quarts of colostrum today. He'll be castrated. What I'm nervous about: he would be alone. By himself in our...

    Traffic jam in the woods

The warm winter has wreaked havoc with the loggers. Wednesday it froze up enough to get trucks back into the woods. They hauled for over 30 hours, six trucks. About half went to the mill, the rest they just forwarded up near the barnyard where they could get at it regardless of weather. This...

Any creative ways to deal with netwrap?

Just curious if there's anything that can be done with used round bale netwrap? Disposal is default method, but maybe it could be repurposed, reused somehow... Pelletized for fuel? braided into rope? stuffing for mattress? Share the crazy brained ideas! It's winter, nothing is too wild!

I don't know what to do with this battery pack

I was using this battery pack and it suddenly died. I tried charging it, but the charger shows an error message and won't go. I put multimeter on terminals and shows nothing. I opened it up, but only got more confused. Anybody want it for experimental adventures? ...looking at you George..... I...

    New forum interface

Just want to say I'm grateful for the work you put into this. Obviously a big change, for a site you managed to keep going the old way for so long. I really appreciated that it was the same for so long, but I totally understand why it changed. From what I see so far, it's well done and you did...

small progress on big swamp buggy

I got the hub open, found two huge nuts, eight-sided. And remnants of a locking washer tab thing. I'm assuming these go onto the spindle. New problem: threads on spindle are ground up, worn bad. How do I deal with this? The big nuts won't turn on more than 2-3 rotations.

Okay fellas! The front fell off!

Tractor related b/c we are using a tractor to fix this: It was quite a surprise!! Im looking for advice. My understanding is this axle came from a military truck (deuce&a half). It's nothing like anything I've worked on before! The protruding axle stud has a large bearing inside end...

Impressed by my little put-put in the cold. (pic)

1940 John Deere H Rebuilt magneto sure helps in the cold! (Luke's in Two Rivers) It seems to like less choke and more throttle when starting. I've got it to pop off on the first crank with 1/3 choke and 2/3 throttle.

Could I swap front axle for something stronger? 3100

Still working on this 1972 gas 3000 (model 3100 I've learned). I really like the loader and want to keep it. But, I see how it's just plain hard on the front axle. Previous owner put truck tires on, flipped the rims outwards. So, I'm faced with rebuilding the entire spindle, arm, new tires...

Can I store gasoline in a former diesel tank?

A friend got me these tanks. Both have a gallon or two of diesel sloshing around. Approx 3year old diesel. I want to store gas in the aluminum stand tank. Can I just fill it up? Do I need to rinse it out first? (The red tank with the pump, I want to sell, so I'm leaving as-is)

72-3000 steering spindle top arm connection

The left wheel is getting skewed out of alignment. It snaps out, then darts back. Drastic wobble. I watched the top of the spindle, it rotates inside the clamp of the arm (maybe thats called a 'pitman arm'?). I tried tightening the clamp on the arm, but it's not grabbing tight enough on the...

Got it together (3000 steer cylinder)

I think I did it right. I wasn't sure whether the heavy rubber washer faced outwards or inwards. I guessed inwards, it was a tight, snug fit. I used a small vice to press the green thing together. It was tricky... I had two extra o-rings leftover...I hope that's okay? Next: should I...

3000 power steering cylinder leak- end off what next?

I got the end unthreaded from the cylinder and removed the internal snap ring. But what next? The small piece inside moves a little but should it come out? Do I have the starex or a&I cylinder? I plan to buy a seal kit, but there's four to choose from! Tractor is a 1972 Ford 3000 gas.

small ATV winch question about 12v power

I scavenged a 12v WARN winch A2500. It does not have a controller. Just the winch and cable. Can I connect the battery directly to the studs on the winch? I would use a switch and connectors to create a method to reverse polarity for changing direction. I'm asking because - some other...
