    OT Car wash

Maybe you could buy a large 50HP tractor with heated cab and plow snow, grade driveways and roads. It would be 40K dollars for a machine that size. And, you could get $50 an hour for your work. A buddy of mine has a 50HP Deere machine that he trailers around and gets $50/hour for the work...

    Indiana trying to save money

A lot of states fix roads and bridges with gas tax money. There is no solution that everyone will like.

    Home water filter problem

The screw in bleed off has a small thread that is rusted out, and I cannot screw it back in unless I retap it and put in a new stainless screw. I would likely super glue it in there. (I need to throw it in the garbage)

Yes it was an air bleed off, (red button) not an indicator.

    Home water filter problem

The ACE place did not have shark bite fittings, and they did not have 3/4 compression fittings either. Grrrr....... The closest Home depot is 20 plus miles away.....ACE is 4 miles away.

    Home water filter problem

I have (or had) a large home water filter that I installed a few years ago and today my wife runs up to me in the living room and says, "there is a water leak in the laundry room" I saw that there is a small indicator on the top of the filter (all plastic filter by the way) the indicator was...

Die Casting advice (a little off-topic)

Would it make sense to machine the item out of a solid aluminum billet? 5.5 pounds is not much for an 18inch diameter detail. Is it 3/4 inch thick?

    Universal Tractor Fluid

Be sure to buy oil that is rated for cold weather, I bought a 5 gallon pail of stuff rated for all weather cold/hot, At a Deere dealer. I have a hydrostatic drive transmission that needs the oil to be thin enough to flow at the cold temps.

OT-Kids Homework-dumbing it down for everybody??

I think that for 3rd graders the value of Pi is not that important yet. I remember Pi being approximated to 3.14 or 22/7. I do not care really because I do not have to use it at work. That would appear to be stuff a 3rd grader would do, connect the dots to make polygons, triangles, and...

    Plumbing fitting dillema ..

When in doubt....Make the fittings yourself, I have had to in tight situations. I have had to make aluminum adapters that had a tight fit in a parts washer at an old employer.

    John Deere 5055E

Not bad........I know that $30k is a lot of money but a New Holland workmaster 40 with 4wd, 2.0 Liter engine is $22k without a loader. Those new machines are nice, but when I look at the price my wallet shrivels up and says....HUH?

Plans for a Machinest tool box

Are you talking about the wooden machinist chests or a sheet metal one? I saw a guy that made his own machinist chest out of wood and it was 5 times better than a USA made Gerstner box. The Gerstner boxes as you may know are over $1000. You can buy 3 Kennedy journeyman's chests for $1000...

    Dumb question

No the return stroke has LESS force then the forward push stroke. Still enough force on the return stroke to crush your hand, or whatever is in the way.

    our new wood stove

Make sure your insurance company knows that you have a wood burner. I just got a call today from my agent and they are going to send over an inspector to check mine. I hope it all goes well.

    Cat 0 3 point
