    I think the main thing was they used SO much fuel, the farmers tried to lean them out a bit too much. This produce very high exhaust gasses, which were hard on valves and exhaust manifolds both. The gas was cheaper then, but you burned a 1/4 to half again as much of it.

    Thanks for the info! I got this tractor for a steal, and it has a fresh rebouilt engine with a 281 kit and the LP head. Dyno'd at 58HP, which is pretty good for a Super W6. needs a leak patched in the radiator and painting.
