    F40 no spark. No go.

Yes. It was one advertised at 6/12v with the ballast resistor on the side of the coil.

    F40 no spark. No go.

I don't quiet understand the ballast resistor and wether or not I damaged it or the coil.. or if it's just a ticking time bomb...but regardless... IM A FREAKING IDIOT....Had the dang firing order wrong, ie wires plugged in the wrong order. Fixed that and everything seemed to be a lot...

What I thought I was doing and what I should be doing may be confused... followed this guy's diagram "I thought"

    F40 no spark. No go.

I don't have a test light but the voltage is now 12.38 anywhere in read it. + or Neg side of coil ... either side of the resistor. When I crank, the reading on the voltmeter errors out and gives -1 until I stop cranking and then returns to 12.3. Something is broke. Previously I was getting...

    F40 no spark. No go.

Pics as requested. I've tried it this way and without the 2nd wire running to the coil. This is negative ground 12v converted with 1-wire alternator. When it is wired this way and the key is in the crank position, the starter keeps trying to engage. When I take the wire off that is running...

    F40 no spark. No go.

I wouldn't say I had it running in December. I think I fried the electronic ignition and the coil somehow back then. Mice got up in the tractor and nibbled through a bunch of wires. Saw sparks and smoke and the Pertronix sounded like it was sizzling inside... like a boiling sound... could have...

    F40 no spark. No go.

Probably a dumb question but I'm stumped . '57 F40. 12v conversion to alternator. Entire fuel system redone including relined the gas tank. New carb from Amz. (Old one had a crack in the bowl). New fuel lines. New fuel bulb. I had some grounding issues causing starter solenoid intermittently...

    F40 Trials and Tribulations

I'm about to give up and put this tractor (Ferguson F40) on DisgraceBook Marketplace. I don't know what else to do. 7 out of 10 times I can not get it to start. Once started 7 out of 10 times I cant keep it going when putting it in gear. Once it is running, and I can get it into gear without...

    F40 Trials and Tribulations

Original carburetor is in the landfill somewhere. Replacement carburetor replaces the following models: Marvel Schebler, TSX605, TSX683, TSX882 So, to answer your question, new carb is a Marvel Schebler knockoff.

    F40 Trials and Tribulations

Sorry for the delay. As advised in this thread, I removed the carb again. Ran wires through the holes and made sure every hole was clear and no obstruction. Re-mounted with new gaskets. I've got both adjustment screws sitting somewhere around 1 full turn open. Still dying and having trouble...

    F40 Trials and Tribulations

New fuel line, new fuel shutoff assembly, new carb, new lining in gas tank. Not sure how it can be a fuel issue unless it's with this Aftermarket carb. I don't knock your dislike for electronic ignition, but it was doing this same thing with the old points and old coil. At this point I've...

    F40 Trials and Tribulations

Well, I didn't use a wire but I did use some started fluid squirts to make sure fluid would pass through each jet. Made the mistake of finding out where it comes out by shooting fluid in one hole and it squirted out from another jet directly into my face and eyes lol. I can take it off again...

I can give it a compression test. Autozone rents the test kit. I have replaced the plugs. Getting good spark. I did notice that the Pertronix coil was HOT to the touch. I could of sworn it sounded like it was boiling. It's brand new.

    F40 Trials and Tribulations

NOT oem carb .. it's aftermarket... Kiva or something from Asia. Choke "seems" to work because I almost always have to use it to keep it running when starting. I have to keep pulling and finesse the choke t to keep it running. Brand new fuel bulb. Zero rust in tank. Just refinished it...

    F40 Gas Tank

I'm doing the electrolysis process on my tank now. Decided I would go ahead and try the liquid liner again but going with something other than red coat. Where are you in Texas? Feel free to direct message me if you'd prefer.

    F40 Gas Tank

Could anyone point me to a place to purchase a new gas tank for an F40? Red Seal worked ok for about 10yrs but I'm not going down that path again. I'm just going to call 76years out of one tank a good run. I bought a tank for a T035 but it is too wide for the F40 so I'm going to send it back...

    Stalls out, sputters, loses power.

I have an F40 that seems to be losing power. It will stall out 5 out of 10x's when engaging pto with brush cutter attached. Sometimes when just putting it in gear and releasing the clutch it stalls. Sometimes stalls when throttling up. What I've done: - replaced carb (yea with a cheap china...

    Stalls out, sputters, loses power.

I think it's doing what you described. It's like it is fine at a lower rpm, but when I pull the throttle lever down (to increase rpm) it gets past a certain point it springs wide open (lever tips towards the rear of tractor). It's like there's no middle ground. Slight open to wide open. I'll...
