    4230 progress

Bought this clapped out tractor last summer-engine blew while running a manure pump, cab interior is trashed but the price was right.Found a low hour 466 turbo out of an 80's 7720 combine.Bolted it in the frame rails the other day and fired it up today.Engine started immediately and runs...

    4640/4840 vs 4430/4440 frame rails

Might be putting a 466 from a 7720 combine into a 4230 QR tractor. This 466 from the combine has the larger 3/4 " bolts/rectangular mounting pad on front of block.I can modify my existing frame rails to accept the larger pattern. My question is will a 4640/4840 tractor frame rail which has the...

    Deere 4230 revisited

Bought this thing a few months back with a locked engine(it shucked a rod cap plus sheared flywheel bolts as it was on a manure pump at the time).I've never seen the inside of the clutch housing on a quad range. Are those black lines from normal wear and tear on the permaclutch? Just...

    Random childhood memory

More like an adolescent memory.Growing up on the family dairy farm in the 1970's I was a 14 year old kid obsessed with farm equipment to the point that I would inquire about their sales brochures from farm magazines like Hoard's Dairyman.Had a pretty impressive stack of sales brochures in short...

    Deere 4230 carnage

Bought a 1974 Deere 4230 with fried engine several weeks ago.Pulled cab, split the thing etc.Tractor was running a manure pump when evidently the connecting rod let go in number one and locked the engine.Pretty sure the flywheel bolts sheared too as the ring gear and clutch assembly can be...

Deere 30,40 and 50 series options question.

I have had all three,a 4230,4440 and a 4250.Seems like most of these tractors came off the assembly line with a QR trans and dual remotes and to a lesser degree a front weight bracket wth or without weights especially on the 40 series. So if a farmer wanted or needed extras would the local dealer...
