My latest "what is it" acquisition.

Here is one of my winter tool purchases. Bought it not knowing what it is. Doesn't look like anything I will ever use. But it seemed to need a home. Says vise grip on the shiny handle which clearly looks like it is a replacement handle. The duller remainder of the tool has the logo shown in...

    Shop bell

I have this dual bell that I am going to adopt into an alarm for the shop. The junction strip has very thin (phone line size) wires. This diagram is inside the cover to the box. A red wire attaches to one terminal, a black at the opposite end. Two terminals in between with a jumper and an...

    300u block heater

Looking at the post below about cold weather starting on a 300u. I have one on 12v that would not start in cold weather. I remember looking for a block heater for it but there was some issue...I do not recall what. No place to install it is my memory so you had to do a retro fit of some sort...

    What is this?

I have not posted one of these in a long while, but this turned up in my auction/sale lots that I pick up from time to time. Anyone know what it is? Hazard a guess? It is aluminum and stamped on one end is Baker Made in USA. The crank moves half the unit up and down the scale...to what end I...

    Allen wrench size?

I am repairing a Senco framing nailer. I have a cap screw that I need to remove but in all the allen wrenches I have around here none of them fit. The parts list says it is a Screw Shc Slc 8-32 X 1/2. 1/8 is too big and 3/32 is too small for the screw head. Anyone know?

    300U question

This packet was in the carb kit I bought. Can anyone tell me what it is?

    IH 300U Carb

I've been away from this project for about a month. Rainy afternoon so I sat in the shop and put the kit in the carb. I bought the high end kit but the directions are not great. Been a while since I have done a carb and I was never a rock star at it. Less so now than then unfortunately. I...

    IH 300U - Carburetor...curiosity

I bought a set of off-shore angled open end wrenches from Amazon. Don't know how I would have gotten the carb off any other way without screwing something else up. I've seen some ugly carbs, but this one wins. A couple pictures worth anything I would have to say. A lot of rust. About a...

    IH 300U - carburetor

I pulled the fuel line at the carb and got a good strong flow of very clear, clean gas. Removing the filter from the carb is difficult. The brass fitting has a conflict and it is difficult to get a wrench onto it. It is also turned on hard and the combination is making it want to round over...

IH 300U - Back at the no-start issue.

Finally found my way back to the shop. I had my phone with me and started working down the list of things to try that you all posted in the last thread regarding why it would not start (has new charged battery, new plugs, test light shows spark on all four). I cannot say I made it very far...

    300U...leftover parts?

I will put a picture up. I have this tractor back together after a couple difficult years. Just need to connect all the wires which I (hopefully) have well marked and documented. I have some hardware unaccounted for. Not real concerned about the homemade spacers or whatever they are on the...

    IH 300U...the volt meter works!

Actually...everything seems to work fine. I very much appreciate all the help with the wiring! That was a real mess! I wired everything but the lights just as suggested. Only difference was they did not have a 35 amp fuse so I put a 40 in there for now. My phone will not let me pull up YT...

    300U...Can we revisit the alternator?

Not arguing, absolutely believe what I am being told, but this alternator has been wired wrong since the day I bought the tractor according to the previous post. And that is a lot of years. I looked at the alternator connections as Jim suggested and the white wire is switched with the red...

IH 300u -help me out with wiring.

I have the four stud key switch with the starter solenoid connected to the center stud. The remaining studs are IGN, BATT, and ACC. The BATT is connected to the same solenoid post as the battery positive. On the alternator pictured there is a white wire connected to the side terminal (below...

300U...new switch install/letting the smoke out of the w

The new (identical to the old one) switch arrived and I put it in today but the BATT wire slipped it's crimp on connector when I put the panel back into the tractor just enough that it shorted out. So I took this as a sign to move the wire to the starter when I replaced it. Round two and the...

    300u voltmeter

Here is the volt meter. I had continuity across the posts. One of the wires is unconnected. My memory is it was on the battery ground.

    300u key switch.

Center wire is not marked and is unconnected. The rest have markings. I am working on reading those now.

    300u starter

Here is the starter solenoid as installed. One of the unhooked wires needs to be on the center small lug.

    IH 300U wiring....last question I hope.

So the 450 schematic was helpful in general but different from the 300u. For example...I have a key switch not an on/off switch and a push button. So I did a continuity check on all wires. Keep in mind that, as strange as a connection looks, the tractor ran in the condition it is in with the...

IH 300U - another dumb question...

I actually have this tractor completely reassembled, fluids on board, etc. I wish I could tell you how long it has been, but that would be another of my blackout areas. I have pictures show I split it in 2021 so it must be true. I went up to the auto electric place with photos and my hat in...
