1987 Ford 555B 201 engine compression .

I have a hard starting 1987 Fiord 555B with the 201 3
cylinder diesel engine . Ive done a compression test but
would like to know what my minimum compression would be
ok for this engine . Thanks .

What did you get for readings when you did your compression test? All injectors out? Battery charger on the battery to keep cranking speed up? How many revolutions on each cylinder for the test?

My readings were as follows ; #1 330 , #2 320 and #3 was
280/290 . I left the other injectors in while I performed the
test and yes I had a battery charger on the battery . It was
about 8 or 9 revolutions .

I would say you are at the low end of the range of compression for a diesel. I would think it should be more in the 400-450 range for good quick starting and best fuel economy.
