Thank you! Those numbers are indeed right there..

Model: C5011

C50: 3500
1: Diesel
1: No PTO
Should be a letter at end that indicates
transmission type F? would be 4X4 torque
converter auto reverse

1H30B:

1971, AUG 30, Day shift

C312485:

Serial number, C made in USA, 312485 is a
1971 serial number

Wow that's great information, thank you! And yes, I do see there's a letter over there to the right, when the sun comes up I'll see if that's an "F".

The early industrials were blue chassis with yellow sheet metal. The 2 4500s I have are same way. One is 68, other is 69.

Sorry for one more "I need help"
I m having trouble identifying my tractor/backhoe as well. It s a three cylinder diesel that I think is a 4500. Trying to replace the crank, but having trouble decoding the model. It starts with a J, haven t seen any decoders that start with J. Attached is a picture of the sticker under the hood.

Based on the scoring on the cylinders and the distance between the top and the bottom ring I ve measured it s a 4.2 inch stroke. The casting number on the crank is almost nonexistent, can t read any of it.

Any and all help appreciated

J5011J is the model number. Here is the breakdown:
J50 - This says that it is a 5550 Industrial model
The first 1 says that it has a diesel engine
The second 1 says that it has no PTO
Th J at the end says that is has the 6x6 torque converter auto reversing transmission.

A 5550 had a 4 cylinder engine. I don't see how a hood from a 4 cylinder model would even fit properly on a tractor with a 3 cylinder engine.

C318933 is the serial number. That is a late 1971 serial number.

1K21B is the Unit Number, which is a code for the date that it left the assembly line, which was October 21, 1971 during the day shift.

The rest of the numbers are date codes for the assembly of the main sub-assemblies:

Engine - 1J27A - September 27, 1971 day shift
Transmission - 1H11B - August 11 1971 day shift
Hyd Pump - *** - asterisks indicate that it did not have a hydraulic pump for a 3 point lift
Hyd Lift - *** - asterisks indicate that it did not have a 3 point hydraulic lift

Wow, good info. It s definitely a 3cyl diesel, I ve split the tractor and pulled the crank. It s got two shift sticks and a single plate clutch (no PTO), I wonder if someone cut down the hood from another tractor to make it fit? The engine casting on the side is 37NN 6015AK. This week I ll see what is stamped on the side of the block below the casting number to see if it matches the hood sticker. I couldn t see any numbers by the starter.

(quoted from post at 02:28:50 12/20/23)
Model # C5011F
C50 = 3500 industrial
1 = diesel engine
1 = no pto
F = 4x4 torque converter auto reversing

1H30B = 1971 August 30 on day shift

It's not C5011F, it's J5011F. Look closely.

That engine block casting number, C7NN6015AK, does appear to be a 3 cylinder 4000 series block. Can you get the numbers off of the flat spot on the bell housing, near the starter, located in the oval in the picture below:

And also the numbers in the lower oval in the picture below.

As well as some pictures of the tractor itself, including the front and rear axles and the hood and grill?

That's a problem when folks respond to an old post with a new question. You start reading the thread and don't notice the date it was started and you think it's a new question. I still don't see how a hood from a 5550 4 cylinder tractor could fit properly on a 3 cylinder tractor. Let's hope that he finds the other numbers I asked for.

There s a new thread that got started, started with the same name as this thread, but with a reply in front of it. My apologies for bad for etiquette! I ll try not to reply to an old post in the future. You guys have already helped me a bunch so many thanks. I ll get some more pictures tomorrow.

I'm going to take a WAG and call that a 4500. Look for a decal under the hood, or else post back with the all of the numbers
stamped on top of the transmission immediately behind the starter. You might very well need a wire brush to see them.
