Re: Farmall H MW paper air filter

I still have the factory installed oil bath air filter on my
Super H and M. They are only marginally effective at filtering
dirt out of incoming air. I've never seen an oil bath filter
rated more than 90 to 95% effective, meaning it's passing a
sizable amount of dirt into the engine. An oil analysis is
another way to check how much dirt your engine takes in.
DONALDSON makes a family of reinforced molded plastic air
cleaners all designed to use 2-stage woven synthetic woven fiber
filter elements, filter inside a filter style, they're rate
99.95% effective. I bet your oil analysis goes down to ZERO
Parts pee million with that filter. I have one on the 27 hp
Kawasaki V-twin engine on my Zero turn mower, 10 years and 325
operating hours and I haven't replaced my inner filter yet,
dealer says replace it next spring. I've replaced the outer
filter 3 times, about every 100 hours, it's big enough it's not
real dirty, the dry filter on my 10, 12, & 14 hp Kohler engines
would get absolutely filthy, packed with dust & dirt between the
filter pleats.
My Super H will get one of these Donaldson filters when it
gets the new old stock IH FireCrater sleeves & pistons I bought
2-3 years ago. The M has fairly new M&W Add Power sleeves &
pistons from the late 1960's, and Dad retired farming fall of
'72, lots of life left in it.
