working on a truck for a buddy of mine he wants to get ride of the 17 inch split wheels and put some thing else on it that will take the stock hub caps

If your local tire shop is afraid of split rims, find another shop.
If they look like mine, with 5 lugs, Id like to buy them.

Terry wh - A stock 2wd 1952 F-3 has, as you know, 17" wheels with eight lugs that have what we call an "innie" hub cap mount. The wheels are Budd #49380/Ford #7RY 1007B, and have the widow maker Firestone RH-5° outer rim that few today will work on. To retain stock hub caps you have three options. They are 16" Kelsey-Hayes #31282/Ford #7RD 1015B, 17.5" Budd #70720/Ford #B6D 1015A, and 19.5" Budd #71410/Ford #B6D 1015B. I know of a guy that has available sets of the 17.5" and 19.5" varieties. I will post my email address below if you want contact info.

ObsoElitist - is your name Paul, or did you buy your truck from Paul? I've tried to get information about it since Paul posted about it on the FTE forum a year or more ago. It is a 1952 F-2 Marmon-Herrington 4x4 conversion. I have three like it, and what's left of two others. Paul posted on the Ford Truck Enthusiasts forum looking for a steering column. I have an archive of F-2 and F-3 M-H trucks and asked Paul for the truck's data tag info and front axle number. It is a very unique truck. It should have, but doesn't presently have, Budd #47210 wheels that are 16"

Yep, thats me. It is 52 F2 Marmon-Herrington, and while the wrong nose is on it, the right one came with it and has the oval HM badges too. I forgot about the axle number. It rained for 2 days here and when the mud dries I will slide under it with a wire brush. I did get a steering column, and have not had time to work on this one, but did have the CHP verify the VIN and make sure it wasnt too good to be true. I have an engine-less 51 F2 on the trailer now, a guy is trading straight up for a 51 Ford F series 3/4 ton step van.

The pictured red truck is a 1952 F-2 Marmon-Herrington. It has the 5 Star Extra trim package upgrade based on the stainless windshield surround. From the discussion we had about it over on the FTE forum it has the 215 inline OHV six, first year offered. It is one of two I have archived with that set of features. The green nose is from a 1951 F-6, base 5 Star trim package. We know it's from an F-6 because the side spear says F-6. Many guys think the term 5 Star means the deluxe trim package, but not so. The deluxe package was the 5 Star Extra. Stu

and I forget if you sent me the VIN and MH numbers. Send
them too if you would. And if you sell the truck down the road
please save my contact info for the buyer. Thx.

Also, you said you'd like to have 17" wheels. It was the F-3s
that got 17s. Either Budd #44820 or Budd #59340. Honestly
correct F-2 MH wheels are rarer, Budd #47210s.
Unfortunately yours aren't originals. Yours look home made in
the pictures and have Goodyear split rings. Originals have
Firestone RHP solid/unbroken ring/rim combos. I know of an
available set FWIW. Stu

Terry wh - I swapped texts with my friend Mark this morning and confirmed he does have available sets of both the single wheel style 17.5s and 19.5s. Mark lives in SD, but could ship. The 19.5s will be (contrary to what you might think) a closer match to the 17" tire outside diameter than will be the 17.5". The 17" or 19.5" tires will be 33.5"-34" tall where the 17.5s will be 31.5"-32" tall. Stu

Stay away from 17.5 wheels unless yoj like expensive tires.
Stu, the truck also has an original heater and radio. I am the second owner.

Two subjects here, gotta keep separated. First, Terry wh doesn't have any cheap answers if he holds to his desire to use the stock hub caps. If he drops that, any junk yard 16" F-250 single wheel 1948-1996 will fit the bolt pattern and clear the truck's 12" rear drums. The best option to retain the hub caps would be the K-H 16" wheels I listed, but they are hard to find. As for the 17.5" tires, they will be more than Walmart 16s no question, but a lot less than 19.5s.

Your truck, as I said, is a 5 Star Extra. That is again seen in the padded door trim, and cigar lighter, in addition to the stainless windshield trim. But it has a base level (no lock) glove box door which raises concern that the data plate that mounts inside might not match the frame number. That would matter to your DMV. I checked the old FTE discussion and have the VIN you posted showing an HM (Highland Park, MI) build location like most Marmon-Herringtons, so you might verify the frame number and data plates match. It also was originally the Woodsmoke Gray color, not red. Stu

Terry wh - I see in another posting that you live in Perham, MN. My friend Mark that has the available tubeless wheels lives in the Sioux Falls area. He's told me before that he knows of a dirt cheap delivery company that serves SD and MN. Stu

Stu,

Glad you 'splained that to me. If that hood was from a '52 it would have a round indicator on that hood stripe.

We had a '52 F-3 with the 5 Star Extra trim. It still amazes me that Dad paid the extra, but that may have been the only way he could buy that truck at that time.

I wrecked it in April of 1953 - not bad, but I wasn't supposed to be driving it (no license yet). All Dad said was, "Well, I was going to buy you a new Ford Hardtop when you turned 16, but you just saved me $2,300 (estimated, because I don't remember exactly).

Was never mentioned again.
