|

I just bought an 806 gas yesterday. I was just looking for some kind of planting tractor. I bought it knowing that the TA was out on the low side. Now that I got it home, driving it up and down some hills it seems to have some hesitation. Does that mean that the high side is slipping? For some reason I was thinking that high was direct drive so could the actual clutch be slipping? It does seem to bog down a little bit when going and slam on the brakes.
Thanks,Zach |

Aim it at a clear stretch of field, put it in road gear, give it 3/4 throttle and let the clutch out rather rapidly (as though you were a novice with a stick shift Falcon). If it rapidly kills the engine, the clutch is probably OK. If it takes off and builds speed till it travels at the throttle setting, the clutch is toast. Jim |

The high side clutches COULD be going to lunch along with other things . Like said below could be the main clutch slipping . It could be sucking air and dropping lock up pressure and allowing the direct drive clutch pac to unlock and with the low side out it will give the jerky in and out . So to start off , first make sure your OIL lite is working and that the low oil pressure sender is hooked up on the MCV , a gauge inplace of the sender would be better . Then check pressure on the MCV . Your dealing with a tractor that is starting to get OLD and god only knows how it was treated . And to cure your problems ya may have to replace the T/A MCV pump and the main clutch along with a couple hand fulls of other pieces and parts. Nothing that a couple grand won't fix. |

Common point of confusion is there are TWO types of TAs.
Starting with the Super MTA, and up through the 560, the TA was MECHANICAL. If a mechanical TA goes out on the low side, you can run the tractor virtually forever on the high side with no problems.
When the 806 came out, the larger tractors came with a HYDRAULIC TA. Anything made between 1963 and 1985 with a 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36 or 37 as the first "digit" in the model number has a HYDRAULIC TA.
The hydraulic TA is a totally different animal. When the low side goes out, the high side is usually not far behind.
IMHO, never buy a tractor with a hydraulic TA that has TA problems unless you plan on replacing the TA immediately. |

TA is basically a two-speed powershift.
It gives you an extra speed between each main gear.
IH never put TAs on tractors as small or old as the A, so you're not missing anything on your tractor. |
