Am in need of a wiring diagram for a 1960 gas 550. It is currently negative ground. Was it originally positive ground and will gagues work with negative ground? Trying to make sense of the mess under the cowl. Any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks, Mark.

Mark, If you have a fax number send it to me , and I'll fax you a copy out of the repair manual, It started out + ground, I'm guessing it now has an alternator on it ??? the gauges have to be rewired to work

Thanks for your reply. I don"t have a fax number. Would another method be possible? I"d gladly reimburse for your time and effort. It still has the generator which wasn"t working when I acquired the beast. I opened the generator the other day and discovered the field wire at the armature brush was disconnected and just hanging. Have no idea if this was intentional, or something missed when someone replaced the brushes. Figured I"d best check out the wiring before risking a disaster. I think the temp gauge did work, but can"t be positive as it was years ago. Not sure about the fuel, and the idiot lights weren"t working. Guess I need to figure out exactly what has or hasn"t been changed. Am trying to visualize changes for gauges to work with negative ground. Is it a big deal?

If that generator is tunedup it will work fine. Leave it positive ground. My 2 cents worth.

Have been thinking about it, and figure the best bet is to put everything back to original. Why make a bad situation worse? It should be far easier in the long run. Thanks for the input.
