Just brought in a Pony that from all appearances
it was originally grey. I have had other Ponys
but they were all red. Can someone tell me the
story of the paint change? Thanks for any help. |

Like always.... A Massey-Harris-Ferguson Pony... guys on the Harry Ferguson forum might know more quicker, but I 'think' from 1956? to 58? They were painted like this, and IIRC, sold at either franchises till there was only one line of goods. Do you have the serial number handy? |

Massey Harris were painted red and ferguson's were gray. This is the only difference between the 2 |

The Gray pony's were built in 1954. Serial numbers started 23149 with a little over 900 built. Front axle is different and gear shift is straight. Generator has regulator on top not a cut out like MH. |

One other thing the serial number tag has Massey-Harris-Ferguson. The red ones had only Massey-Harris. |

I agree with Miner09. Serial numbers 23149 to 24090. All had a Pacer adjustable front end. They had a gusset welded to the bracket going from the front end back to the center of the tractor for additional strength. The spindles are also a little larger and longer than a MH Pony.
I have send several red Ponies that have faded out to a gray color. I do not know if it was the primer they used or the paint just went gray!! That too makes for more confusion.
The serial number and the front end are the two best methods to determine if they are MH or Ferguson. |
