The cam on the weights that push the bushing in the governor are wore and that is what is causing this thing to not be right. I did a little farm mechanicing and removed some of the play and it works great. There is still a good useable surface there. I just added a smooth, polished washer to the front of the bushing to take up the slop. Seems to be working good, almost like the tractor has gained 4 to 5 hp. It is very responsive to load changes. Another question: What oil filter does this beast take? Mine is a 1949 model. The previous owner painted the filter orange so no numbers are available.

Good Deal. Thanks for reporting back. That is not just farm mechanicing by the way. A mechanic finds a problem and fixes it. You fixed it. So many parts swappers that take things apart and put on new parts until they solve the problem want to call themselves mechanics. As the saying goes, even a blind hog will find an acorne once and a while.

I dont remember the number. I always look it up or have the parts person look it up for me at the store. I then open the box to make sure it is cotton and not paper. Some times I have NAPA drop them off here at my office and I open the box before the person gets away to make sure it is cotton.
