I have a problem with my john deere 410 backhoe. It will move reverse but not forward. I have checked the linkage and the pin and it was all ok. I checked the low pressure PSI for the forward and reverse with a gauge. Reverse was 100 PSI and forward was 40 PSI. I checked the sump screen and it had a little dirt on the end but was ok. I took a part and checked the clutch control valves and nothing was stuck or sticking. I change the piston & spring because it had a couple score marks on it and changed the pin fasteners and springs in the clutch control valve. Still did not help so I ended up splitting the backhoe and found out that the reverser clutch plates where burn up and the clutch disk where warped so I change all them and the sleeve rings. The piston seem to look good so I just change the piston seal. Everything else seem to look good to me in there so I put everything back together and put new filters and hydraulic fluid in and fired it up and tried forward and it still will not move forward so I checked the PSI again. The reverse was still about 100 PSI and forward was about 60 PSI. I know it should be a round 165 so I am losing pressure somewhere. Does anyone have any suggestion what to look at now. I will probably have to split the backhoe again but looking for advice on what to look for now or anything that I could check before I split the backhoe again. I have never did one before but it was not too bad just not sure what to look for now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The one I worked on quite awhile ago was linkage issues. The linkage was moving but not enough, binding or a little rusty. They even took it to the dealer before I looked at it. Hook your gauges up and have the linkages apart and see if your pressure is different than before. chris

Thanks for the reply matthies
I tried that already and no differents in pressure. I unhooked the linkage and moved it by hand and it did not make a differents but thanks for the suggestion. I'm Hoping someone here mite know what it could be or what to look at next.

Dale did you check pressures on top of the valve or underneath? And if underneath did you add shims to try and adjust pressure? I have the book in front of me to refresh my memory.

Hi Matthies
I checked the pressure on top at port 29 & 31 and I did add a couple shims to try and adjust the pressure but it did not really do anything' It mite of raised it up a couple from maybe 43 to 45 psi that was it and I put a couple more in it but never made a difference so I pulled them back out because I wasn't sure if to many in there would hurt it.

Just wondering if the pressure would be better on the bottom port, if it is then we know the problem if after this point. Do you have a manual for this to check linkage adjustments?

I have a Technical Manual coming and I'm hoping it's the same as a service manual to show me more.
