I use the 10si alternators with the two wire set up as Old mentioned. You need to have a diode in the switched wire to prevent back feeding, NAPA stores have an alternator pigtail with the diode or you can crimp one into the wire coming from the switch. Generators are a money pit, especially Autolites. That's why my 400 is going to get an alt. shortly as I use it for augering corn.

A single wire alt does not have a switched power wire to excite the regulator. That's why some rpms are needed to self excite it.
