Where are you located.

What kind of dirt do you have - heavy wet clay, peat, Sandy light stuff, ......

What is the ph of your dirt.

Too much or too little rain?

What crop was grown the year previous.

Do you have insect problems, or fungus/ mildew/ etc issues?

What is your weed control like? I have a cousin that is AHD or some sort of compulsive, grows an acre or two of pumpkins can't find a weed. Have another cousin that grew an acre of pumpkins, planted them and tilled between the hills whenever he still could, and never did a thing for weeds until it was time to harvest. Couldn't hardly find the pumpkins in the tall weeds.... was a world of difference on how many pumpkins each relative got.

Pumpkins,Butternut Squash usually don't respond well to chemical fertilizer. You need to up the organic matter in your pumpkin growing land with old hay, manure etc.Plus you probably need to mineralize your soil with with something like Planters II,wood ashes and kelp.

I was told by a friend that if honey bees don't fertilizer the flowers you won't get punkins. Nice plants ,lots of flowers but no punkins. I never researched it. But ours didn't do anything this year. Very few bees around.

The lose of honey bees is becoming a problem all over the country. If you can find somebody that has bees they might bring in and set several hives for you.

Pumpkins are heavy feeders, they can't be planted too many years in the same place.

We planted in same field for over 22 years and got a good crop every year. The only thing that effected our production was the weather. Insects and fungus can be controlled with sprays.
