My brother bought a logsplitter which has a 2 cyl flat head engine. But he can't ID the brand (or manufacturer)
J4284T is cast on the head
L4689T is cast on the clutch housing

I can't find anything on jdparts with these numbers.

Anybody crack the code for him? (No prize)

Misread your post. Power unit could be a Deere or Hercules.

I have a LUC sitting here, (ironically ready to go into log splitter duty) head has L4284T cast into it, clutch housing is marked L4689T. Sure your J is not an L? Otherwise we are on to something.
