After I went to work,Wife was headed out to run her afternoon route when she looked out the kitchen window and saw what she says was a coyote. Odd thing was this was 2:00 in the afternoon right next to city limits. She said it was big like a German Shepard, looked to be well fed and as near as she could tell his coat wasn't all matted and scraggly looking. She did get a picture but it was so fuzzy all I could see was a dog shaped animal. As far as she knew it never saw her so it really didn't need to show any fear, but 25' from my back door is too fearless for me. I know in some parts of the country they're real brazen, but I didn't think so much in central Illinois. It just don't seem common to see em that close to the house in broad daylight by itself, kinda spooky.

I've never seen a coyote the size of a German Shepherd. Do you have wolves in your area? (...other than those in the gov't?) *lol*

They get pretty big here in NNY and some do look like German Shepard dogs.

Eastern Coyotes are a Eastern Red Wolf/Coyote cross according to the game dept.We kill some that go over 60 lbs.,they are tall as a German Shepard but not as much muscle.

They get too close around here also.
Makes me want to carry my long barrelled 12 gauge with buckshot just walking around the place.

There is a very large swamp behind my folks place, I was in there once when the local fire whistle went off. Coyotes howling all around made the hair stand up on my neck. We do get some big healthy ones here and we do see them in the day and often tracks very close to the house.

Yes they do get bigger here than the western coyote. 60 pounders are not unheard of. However around here they get hunted hard all winter, so they don't want anything to do with human contact and are quite wary of it.

We have heard them here for many years. I?ve only seen one twice in over 30 years. Very shy of people.
