Brother has New Holland Tractor. It wouldn't
throttle up all the way then it wouldn't
idle down completely. He changed filters and
fuel, primed, got it restarted, no change.
Ran it for a while when he throttle back it
shut off and will not restart. Any ideas?
I'm use to changing pumps on 233's and 256s.
I'd this basically the same engine?

It's probably the lift pump on top of the filter head.... the injection pump is quite different than the older ones. It needs to be timed/locked before removal if you go that route. However, mine did the same thing a year ago. Lift pump was worn out.

Thanks Rod. They changed the supply pump when they changed filters (just found that out). They have fuel to the injector pump just nothing at all coming out. Is there a screen inside the pump that could be stopped up?

Tere is likely an inlet screen in the transfer section. You should probably see that from the supply line. If you're sure that there is good fuel flow then likely you have a metering valve problem... or worse.
I've never had that specific pump off but from what I understand you set the engine to it's timing marks and lock the pump before removal. It's not like the old ones that have a dowel on the gear. As far as I know this has no physical timing pin on the drive gear....

Its not hard, just time consuming..
Front cover infront of pump comes off.
Rotate engine until the "extra hole" on the gear is at 6:00
THEN, insert the timing pin or backside of a drill bit into the hole until it pokes thru INTO the PUMP housing.
THAT locks the pump & engine where its supposed to be..
Take the bolts out of the gear & the lines & linkage off & the 3 bolts on the pump.. DONE

OR if the bolts holding on the pump are on the INSIDE of the front cover.. THATS a whole diff. ball game.
