I'm painting a JD 420W, normally I use PPG products and have good paint codes for matching IH red, but not for Deere.
looking for opinions:
1: what is the quality of the paint from Deere? does Deere offer matching harder and reducer? does it have good appearance using it as single stage?
2: does anyone have good PPG paint codes for JD green and yellow?
thanks! |

Sounds funny, but which COLOR of Green will you want..?
There are at lease 2 and maybe more...depending on the model/Year..
I used JD "Classic Green" Rattle cans on this "B" and it is unbelievable..but, I had Properly prepared the surfaces before painting and Wet-Sanded the 1st finish coat onto the ground..
Surface was not good enough..
Beautiful finish...

Looks nice. I always heard John Deere made the best paints available. |

I have used JD paint on 3 tractors. The oldest is 10 years and while it stays inside, it looks just like the day I painted it. |

Last I knew JD did not make any paint. Any equipment manufacturer can can change the brand that they carry just as every store can. It is best to purchase by the manufacturer as opposed to the store, in order to know what you are getting. |

I did this '59 430W in 2008 with John Deere Classic Green, reducer and hardener. It's kept indoors but after nearly 10 years it still looks as good as it did when I finished it.

The paint codes don't mean much if the jobber or supplier doesn't get it mixed right! If you use and like PPG ask it they can get factor pack instead of mixing. I have not used JD green in PPG but have shot a lot of JD classic and new green using DuPont 77 plus hardner in it. Factory pack eliminates mixing errors by the supplier where most could not get two cans the same. I but have not tried to get it from PPG and they may have to order in. |

I have painted several Deere tractors over the last 18 years and I have used Deere paint most of the time with good results. I am in the process of painting a JD H using JD AG Green now. The 420 below was painted about 10 years ago using JD paint and it still looks great. This pic was taken last summer.
I have used PPG single stage paint and it is a better paint.

I painted my 130 with JD paint, it seemed very good, used my NAPA reducer and hardener, it was enamel. I have been painting mostly urethane lately, that seems to go on easier, or maybe just because I am used to it. |
