I know some place..someone has posted how to change the leaking pto seal on a john deere 820,830..can someone please post that link
or better yet..describe what the basic procedure is for doing so.
Tractor is leaking engine oil into transmission some place..crankshaft seal or pto seal..crankshaft seal I understand..Pto..I don't..

That job requires the removal of the flywheel and the timing cover the live pto shaft is the bottom rear shaft and gear remove and take it apart the seal is in that assailably

so that assembly unbolts and you (slide) it out..? seal on it I see parts breakdown...but hard to tell where it is on tractor..

I own several original 820 service manual but have NO experience on JD 820 / 830's"

Hi there, I have an 830 that I bought back in the mid 80,s and it was doing the same. Engine oil in the tranmission. I changed the two seals behind the clutch pulley. One seal keeps engine oil in the engine and the other keeps tranny oil in the transmission. That solved my problem then. Now 30 years later I have noticed the transmission level going up a little again. May have to do it again. Good luck. Kendall W
