Yours can probably be rebuilt. Where are you?
What is the Delco number? One from a gasoline
tractor is heavier I think and will work.
Check the salvage yards.
Those cheap gear reduction starters are for
diesels. I'm not sure there is one made for
the gas engines. If there is it will be cheaper
than rebuilt.

We have a shop close by that can rebuild starters and alternators , electric Motors etc. If they don't have a part they can make it .Reasonable as well. By the way a true L.P. starter is much heavier than a gas .

I guess I had that backwards. I have a former LP that is now on gas.
The starter that was on it is smaller than the one I put on from an
old gas and than the other gas I have. Tractors that old could have
had things switched over the years.

Here?s what the small gear reduction starter looks like compared to the oem style starter the gear reduction does spin the engine a little faster seems to be fairly well built

I have used those reduction starters on 4430's,4640's and Case 730. They work very well. Only problem is they sometimes need longer battery cables.

The 4020 gas and diesel starters take different tooth count on the starter drives so be careful ! I am guessing the 4010 is the same way.

Right now our 4020 gas has a starter on it from a model 500 diesel. It was 24 volt so I converted it too 12 volt. IIRC new field coils and a new solenoid. Armature stays the same. Then I installed the gas starter drive which has a different tooth count and now it turns over better than ever.
