Good day everyone. I was kicking this thought around in my head one day recently. Please forgive me if this is a stupid question.
Smile I was always fascinated with the Case 4 WD tractor crab steering concept. I wonder what the purpose/design was intended for? Was
this a sidehill tillage feature? Did this feature have adavantage(s) over other 4 WD tractor manufacturers of their time frame? I
spent some wonderful hours behing the wheel of the 70 and 90 series 4 Wd tractors decades ago. They are great tractors to drive.
They are still my favorite models. Too bad they don't build these non articulated models any longer. I look forward to these
qestions I have. Thank you everyone. Stay warm....

Hi Kurt

Never run one of those but know a farmer here who had one and a sales rep who dealt with him. Main advantage of crab steer was that you could get the tractor running on three wheel tracks which would help if conditions are a little soft. That's all I know. We are the opposite to you here in Australia having a hot summer, cooler day here today which is really good. Swap you some heat for a bit of the cool you guys are having!

Regards

Matt

Under certain conditions it is a huge traction advantage. Back in the late 70's at a local tractor pull there was a 2470 in the open class that started spinning half way down the track. The driver crabbed the rear end to the side just enough to make 4 tracks. The tractor blew out a big cloud of black smoke as it caught traction and pulled off the end of the track like there was nothing hooked to it. Most of the crowd was speechless. CasecollectorSC owns that tractor today.
