Hello, I have a 1989 JCB 1400 backhoe/loader. When I move the foward/reverse lever on the steering column to the neutral position, it puts the tractor in reverse. Also when I press the clutch petal, I hear the switch clicking, but it does not disengage the clutch. Could this be a problem with the foward/reverse lever, or the foward/reverse shuttle mounted on the transmission?

thank you.

More than likely the switch,I have changed lots of them, having said that the switch is expensive and you need to know its failed before you buy a new one,the switch controls the neutral start,back-up beeper as well as forward and reverse, trace the wiring going to the two solenoids on the shuttle, disconnect the plug, start up,check to see it's in neutral if so the switch is the culprit.

Thank you, AJ.
Are you talking about the lever switch on the steering column?

Yes the forward reverse switch on the column can wear out,the two solenoids that control the forward/reverse clutches are spring loaded to go to the neutral position when the switch is in neutral so by disconnecting the plug you will know which has an issue.
