ok so my old laptop bought the farm a while back and i got a lenovo laptop to replace it. seems like all is good except in the lower right hand corner is notice that says Activate Windows go to settings to activate windows. well seems like everything is working fine already. what does it activate???????????????

That sounds like it's for the Windows license. If it was new it should have already been activated, and if not, generally activated automatically. In the lower LEFT corner, there may be a search box, or if not click on the start/window button. Type in PC. The top result should be "This PC". Put your mouse pointer over This PC, then press the RIGHT trackpad/mouse button and then select PROPERTIES with the left button. Should be View basic information on the right toward the top, below that, last area, should be Windows activation. If it's right, it should say Windows is activated, if it isn't, there should be something like activate now or similar, so do that. If it fails, there's an issue. If it says it's activated, but you still get that popup, then something else is bothering, would need more info.

If it is a used laptop, it may not have been properly upgraded to Win 10.

If you don't activate Windows 10 some of the
features will not work.
