I am seriously thinking about installing a pre-filter system consisting of an electric fuel pump and filter/water separator on my AC7000 maroon belly (Ser#45**) tractor in the fuel line from the tank that goes to the box filter. I need a better way of controlling water contamination than with the box filter as this tractor sits a lot and is subjected to condensation.

System would be as follows:
1- Electric fuel pump - 34-gph, 7-10 psi (in front of --)
2- Racor filter/separator - 15-gph/5-lph, (output connected to the existing box filter)
3- All plumbing associated with the above would be 1/4" (existing line from the tank to pump would not be changed)

My questions are; 1- is this reasonable? 2- will it work okay? 3- any interference with the engine injection system? 4- any other problem(s)?

I am open to suggestions or comments.

While what you are planning will work OK, none of it is needed. Best way to keep condensation water out is to simply keep the tank full. Tanks that are full don't "sweat" like near empty tanks will.

I agree with Diesel Tech, becuase he's got a lot of practical experience, but, i really do believe in Howes Anti Gel Additive,i had one tractor siting inside [with a Rosa-Master pump], with Howes in the tank, for 10 years, put new battery in it, started up ! But i never used B-10 fuel or burner fuel,bought the kind with red additive in it, and i am soybean farmer too, but never used it!

Another vote for keeping the tank full unless you're having trouble with fuel theft. If there's no moist air in the tank, there will not be much, if any condensation in the tank.

What are you using to fIll this tractor? If it is from a portable fuel tank, do you have a hydrosorb filter in it. Those tanks are notorious for moisture. If you have a portable tank, do you have a Pre Vent cap on it or the old flip over capt hat allows moisture laden air to easily enter?. Are you using premium #2 fuel or truck stop/convince store fuel. I spent 14 years owing a fuel business and found these to be the major problems with diesel fuel.

Thanks for responding. We only use regular diesel fuel purchased from the major fuel stations/suppliers and always road/truck use type. We will look into the "Howe" product you mentioned. Thanks again! Farmer AK
