Possibly. Look at original Horse Equipment, many had a oil can holder on implements like Mowers, Binders & other pieces that had "fast moving" parts

My granddaddy had one on the ZBu that he ran the sickle mower with. He used it to lubricate the sicket bar on the mower. he kept it under the console in front of the shifter.

The tractor is still on the farm and I bet its still on there. . . .

Well yes it could be but in the day all oil cans were like that until the pump type came about and guys decided to spend the extra money for the new fancy pump type.
