Ok my brother has got the charlynn pump on, working and not leaking. Turns the wheels well and smoothly but believes it is to slow. Wants to be able to just "spin the wheel" at end of row like locking the left wheel up on a tricycle H for fast response.
Question are these power steering addons just naturally slower than manual given no heavy weight on front end??

Much depends on volume of available oil at rated pressure. If the volume is there in GPM, at the torque generator, and the hoses and passages are sized correctly it will. Jim

If I am sitting still my Char-Lynn is kind of slow. At an idle it really is. When driving mine will turn just as fast as I can do it with the steering spinner. It doesnt matter how full the front loader is. It will spin it with one finger that way. It is just as good as the steering on our 856 and 966. Reminds me of the old huge cars of the 70s with that velvet steering and no feel of the road.

Maybe he should replace the filter that is in the bottom of the reservoir. Was it a used unit? Maybe the vanes are worn in it and it is low on PSI.

Like Jim N says, the Charlynn motor's turning speed depends on the pump. My Super M's Charlynn is powered from the live pump thru a priority valve. It turns the front very smartly - you can literally "spin" the steering wheel even with the engine at idle.

Power steering pump from a GM pickup truck works well for a lot of folks, unless you want "original" for something that was not stock but was contemporary on an M.

There was more than one size torque generators offered also, one was higher speed and others were higher torque using same pump.
