Great service at Discount tire

Don't know if Discount tire is nation wide or not. It is in California. Wife's car had a nail. Discount tire fixed the flat, checked the balance and rotated my tires free. I would say that is good service. Stan

We have 4 in the general area, none of them are worth a flip! I really dont see how they are still in business around here. Tire Kindon too! Seems all these places hire are a bunch of morons! True story, went to DT to price a set of tires, idiot told me that size doesnt exist! Huh? Thats whats on there now. No he says, its not, cant be. Told him to go look, and he he said he didnt need to, he knew he was right. Told him what to go d owith himself. Went to TK ONLY because they are/were the only ones I could a certain tire. That idiot insisted I had 19" rims on my truck, not 17". Even looked at all 4 tires and still said they were 19". SO the idiot actually told the guys to put 19" on, they discovered the 17", and he still tried to charge me for 19" tires, which were like 45 bucks more.

Lots of DT's here in Texas. Only problem I had with them is that they broke the hubcap on my pickup. They paid for the new one. Every time SWMBO or I have bought tires there counter guy has gone out & looked at the tires on the vehicle before checking computer for options. Then they've pulled up what they have & shown me the screen which has all the brands & prices. Balance & rotation free if you bought tires there. They've fixed or replaced tires with a flat.
In short I've good luck with them. I'm a long time customer.

I have all good things to say about the Discount Tire stores around my place. Most of the guys that work there are either hot rods, tractor pullers, or generally decent wrenchers.

They know when you want to change sizes, they break down my tractor tires for me. Not the big ones. Up to 24 inches. They keep an eye out for good used LT245 tires for my trailer when I ask them.

Good service from Discount Tire around Dallas for several years. Bought a set from them 2 weeks ago.
Who else will repair flats free,regardless where you bought them?
They use a torque wrench for final lug torque. Some places get lugs so tight they are difficult to remove on side of road.

I think they looked at the success of Les Schwab in the Pacific northwest, and adopted the business model. Give good value, and good service, and the dollars will take care of themselves. They'll check your air anytime you stop by, whether its their tires or not. Free flat repair and tire rotations on their tires. Cheerful, fast employees with good attitudes (they run out to your car when you drive in). No-nonsense warranty that you don't have to arm-wrestle them over. Mount your new tires while-u-wait, with free popcorn and coffee in the waiting room. They use click torque wrenches to do the final tightening, so even the Mrs. can change a flat, in a pinch.

Ol' Les was a smart guy- He wasn't after the "brand snobs" that insist on Goodyear or Michelin, regardless of price. He was after the folks like me who really don't care about brand, we just want a good product at a decent price. His philosophy was that a tire was pretty much a tire, and while you had to sell a good product at a reasonable price (or the warranty would kill you), it was the little things that actually kept the customer coming back.

Schwabs sure ain't what it used to be. And it's not going to improve any. Things have gone downhill in a big way since the old man died.
The grandkids and great grandkids were all raised with SHINY silver spoons in their mouths. One bought a little ranch across from me a few years ago(when I was still in Cent. Or). You couldn't believe the money they put into the place! Rectangle tube steel fence all along the hwy and down the driveways. Least 3/4 of a million bucks. JUST IN FENCING!!!
They're bringin in bigwig execs to run the board, and it'll likely go public before long, then lookout for things to go downhill in a big hurry. Les always gave his employees an incredible opportunity to make a good living, given they WORKED for it. Won't stay that way once they have stockholders to answer to...
I got quotes last fall for new tires from Discount, Costco, Schwabs, Summit Racing and a couple others. All but schwabs were within %10 of each other. Schwab was %30 higher!!! Never before bought tires anywhere but under the Les Schwab sign,untill now and I likely won't go back...

My local DT treats me right. Its a franchise, owned by a local guy.
Free rotations regardless of where you bought your tires.
Free safety inspections if you're looking to buy a used car.
Tires are slightly higher there then at some other local places, but they
include a free alignment with the new tires so it pretty much equals out.
I haven't been to LS, but it sounds similar. Popcorn, coffee, cookies, etc

My last post was a bit negative...

I've had mostly great service from Les Schwab over the years.
I realize that the owners of the company(kids and Grandkids) are entitled to spend their money however they like. However, I have heard from people who knew Les well, that he would be rolling over in his grave if he saw how things were going. Hardworking folks in the business are not being treated well, while the heirs of the company live like kings...

I believe that a premium price is reasonable, IF you are getting a superior product, or exemplary service. Schwabs service ain't what it used to be, and they have never offered a terrific tire. To me, paying a %30 premium price is NOT worth the service that schwab gives.
