i cant get my lift to work i can push the rear lift up myself and get it to go down by the lift handle but pulling the lift handle up i cant get it to work , the guy i bought it from got it to work when i was looking to buy it he said he cant get it to work everytime ,and a guy he works with told him you push the lift handle one way and up to lift and the other way and down for it to go down so something must be out of adjustment, how should i check it out and what do i do to fix it thanks

Well #1 the PTO has to be in gear and the clutch pedal up to work. #2 fluid level needs to be full. #3 the linkage need to be in good working order

the lever you pull on has a rod that goes to the valve at the right rear corner of the PTO housing. Get out behind the tractor and move the rod by hand. YOu will see two round plates that slide on top of each other. One is attached to the center shaft, the other plate is spring loaded on top of the first. The bottom plate must be pinned to the shaft so it does not slip. The springs on the upper plate must allow the two plates to slid easy relative to each other. pull and push the rod and look at the plates and center shaft to see if everything moves smooth. Some penetrante may be needed. IF all is o.k. on the outside, you may have dirt in the system and spool sticking from time to time. May need disasemble and cleaned and rebuilt...... You can take the hose off the back top of the valve and point it in a bucket and then raise the lift with the hydraulics. Small oil will squirt out the hose. See if you have good flow. Oil must be clean, and must be 10 or 20 wt oil. If you have gear lube in the rear end, that wont work.
