I am in the process of restoring a MH-22 and It is all original including the 6v generator. The tractor is positive ground. Ive had the generator tested and it is charging well. Is there something simple that I am missing? Tractor does not have a voltage regulator and the charge wire from the generator goes to the terminal on the start switch that supplies power from the battery.

There must be at least a cutout if not a regulator. The cutout is required to disconnect the generator from the battery when it is not running. Find the cutout and jump it momentarily to polarize the generator and see what happens. That will "polarize" the generator so it can start charging.

I had a Farmall BN without a Reg. It did have a cutout, the Gen. had a third brush that was moveable to set charge rate. Could yours be the same and the brush needs adjusted ?

Also remember that a gen sometimes doesn"t start charging until it hits a certain RPM.. Did you ever have the engine full throttle yet? When on a test bench (without engine noises) you can slowly increase the RPMs and the gen will start to make a different sound at a certain speed then you will know when it kicks in. The charging will continue at a lower speed but it must kick in first
