I've got a group 27 battery in my '53 SM. It fits box with plenty of room to spare.

Tip: Fill the space around the battery with closed cell foam, lumber scraps or similar to keep the battery from sliding around inside the box.

Ace...Decided to go with 12 V during restoration. double Ott cables, 12v generator off an MD along with correct regulator. Someone along the way someone had put a 12V starter on this girl. Hope to back her up out of the shop under power sometime this month. Never seems to be enough time to get the things that are important finished....

Please do not say that. A new M with 6 V was marginal at best. No way I would try it today. They spin SO much better with 12 volts. If you want 6 on your tractor that's fine by me.

Had a super m overhauled with firecraters. Never had a problem with 6 volts, down to -10 even with 30 wt. oil. If ignition parts kept up to snuff will work fine.

I think just about anything you can find on the shelf at wally's-mart or the auto parts store will fit.
