Yeah, that's haunting isn't it? written about his old neighbor 40 years ago about a war 100 years ago now? Yet could be re written about all the poor kids coming back from Afghanistan eh?
When he gets to 'the armless, the legless, the blind and insane'... that always gave me the creeps... and Gallipoli only lasted a few months!

Tony, I first heard that song in about 1986 when I was riding in a tour bus up the east coast of Australia, when the tour guide put on a cassette (!) of some authentic Australian music.

It is indeed a powerful piece of music.
