I have a 300 Utility that I recently purchased and in the process of changing the engine oil, putting in 4 qts fills it to the full mark on the dipstick, plus removing the top plug on the side of the oil pan oil runs out. The manual says 6 qts. What am I missing?

if the bottom of the oil pan is seriously crushed I suppose you could lose that much volume, but it would be externally obvious.

The pan itself holds 5 quarts up to the upper petcock, the other quart is for the filter. I don't know if the dipstick accounts for the extra quart, it should because the filter drains to the pan when the engine is off. You either have a big dent in the pan or a massive amount of crud in the pan.
