I checked the oil in my early 4020 this morning and it was really over full on the dip stick. My first thought was I have hit the jackpot and my tractor in making oil as I sleep. Surprised Then I noticed the oil was really thin looking so I thought I need to drain this and see whats going on. When i drained the pan it had almost 4 gallons in it. Long story short the only explanation I could come up with was the fuel pump was leaking into the pan. so I replaced the fuel pump, oil and filter. so far so good.

Question is am I over looking some other possible problem or cause for this?

The next possibility is the injector pump shaft seal...

Would the Injector pump shaft seal leak into the pan with the engine not running?

I am not 100% sure but I think this happened while the tractor was just sitting under the shed. It could have happened the last time i ran it but I don't think so.

Thanks for your response Tim.
It seems like it was the fuel pump. After I replaced it and changed the oil and filter I ran the tractor for a couple of hours and checked the oil . All ok Very Happy I will keep a close eye on it for a while thought just in case but as for now it looks like I am set to go.

I did find some other problems while working on this. Seems the valve on the bottom of the fuel take is not working. It was a mess to put a golf tee in the line after I took it off the pump. Embarassed oh well such is my life. Very Happy
