I just picked up another 8N that has the side mount distributor and a MYSTERY item i have never seen before. (suspect there is a lot of them out there just waiting for me)
Anyway, there is a round knob just at the lower left of the tach/hour meter area on the lower right of the dash. It is attached to a cable housing that runs into the clutch housing area and i have no idea what it is for. It is frozen in the cable housing and probably has not moved in years.
Can anyone tell me what it is for?

Auxiliary transmission. In series with regular transmission to allow more speeds.

If it is a Sherman, John Smith has a good page or two.

Red Rock Manufacturing has a Sherman Transmission Cable-to-Lever Conversion Kit. Search it out at their site:

Thanks all. I have seen the Sherman before but it had a lever on the left side of the tractor near the clutch housing.
This one with the cable kinda threw me off.
