Going to look at a 2640 with 2900 hours owner is asking $8500. What pros and cons have you experienced with this model. Would use for pulling a 9' haybine and backup tractor for baler and trailed kicker wagon on hills.
Thanks,
Lee

My in-laws have had one since new. It has over 20000 hours on it now, mostly on a feed wagon. The engine has never been touched internally. They put a clutch in it every third year or so, and a couple hydraulic pumps, that's about all I can think of other than regular maintenance. My parents have had one with a loader for about 10 years with no issues. The hydraulics are getting weak on that one though. Good tractors. Search the forum on here for other peoples experiences.

Good tractors. I'd suggest getting test kits from a JD dealer and test all the liquids.

Traded a 2010D for one in Sept.1976. Good tractor. Did most of the utility work on a 1200 acre operation for 20 years. Probably put 5000 hours or more on it and it brought $7500 in the farm sale back in 1998. Only issues I remember were a couple of hydraulic pump changes, a couple of load shafts and keeping the battery connections clean. We planted no-till soybeans with a 3 pt 7 row 71 flex unit and had no issues with the lift. It was a pleasure to use with a 6 foot blade keeping up the paths and did excellent with a 7 foot rotary cutter. I was sad to see it go.

I got one new in 1978. It was about the same as a 3020 in power but not as heavy. It was a great tractor for many years. Put it on the baler as it was shorter.

Lee,
Those tractors were fairly new when I was working for a Deere dealer. Very little trouble with them. Really strong for their size and if it has 38" rear rubber their even better. Only issues were steel tubes in the transmission but that was usually early in their life. Most must have been modified by now. Good Luck!
