Our white 2-150 kicked the bucket today. The head had a hairline crack when we looked in it next to the valves last fall. We were using it till it died and slowly this year it started using more and more coolant. Today it sucked down five gallons in 20 minutes of work, all right into the oil pan. I think that may be the last straw in this money hole

I've seen them with 5.9 and 8.3 cummins in them, might be cheaper than a new tractor. Don't know of a 478 Hercules would work or not, never seen one in a 2-150. But if they would that'd be a good motor to.

That sucks, and I know that feeling. Had a 1750 and a 2-70 both give out on us. Fixed the 2-70 and sold it and through much debate decided to re-motor the 1750. Now we have a 95 hp strong running, perkins powered, 7,000 hr tractor with weak hydraulics and crappy brakes that we have WAY too much in to ever get rid of it. IF I were to do it all again, I would have parted that 17 out and looked for a newer, better machine to suit our needs. My advice would be to strongly consider your needs before you dump $$$, work, and time into a 35+ year old tractor. Just my 2 cent, best of luck to ya.

Remember, these are famous for having the water pump go out and dump a lot of water into the pan. I would at least take the pan off and pressurize the cooling system. If the water pours in from the front of the engine, it may jsut be the water pump.

I am no expert but my brother had the same problem with water in the oil. First if it is the intercooler there shuld be oil in the water, not water in the oil. Second it will be very hard to tell if the pump is bad with it off. His poured water into the oil and looked fine when off. It's too late now but the first thing you do is clean out the weep hole and see if water comes out. He had to drill the hole out because it was so packed with dirt. No water came out even then. Next you take the pan off and pressurize the system and look for where the water comes in. You might be able to press the pump apart and look at the seal inside.
