I have a Vemeer 605c with double spring big belt tighters. Does anyone know why the chain that hooks to the belt tighter hooks on the frame to hold tighter up? Is there a reason for this cahin to be on there. My book shows only one chain to the tightner off the springs. All comment welcome.

You use it to adjust the size of the core of the bale. In some hay sometimes it is hard to start a bale you adjust it to make a bigger core or more hay in chamber before the belts get tight it will start a bale easier
