I did read Zanes lift stuff forum that he gave me. but it doesn't say how to adjust it, only if you order the cam follower, pin, jig etc. my question is when adjusting the lift system does the lift plate cover need to be removed?

Yes you need to remove the lift cover. Zane's jig makes it much easier to adjust the internal linkage.

If you don't have his jig you need to get it. It will take you about 5 minutes once you have it. If you don't have it I would imagine it would be a half day of measuring things, adjusting, testing it (to find it isnt quite right), and then removing the top to do all over again.

Zane tells you how to adjust it using his jig, if you don't buy the jig there's not much reason to tell you how to adjust it that way.

The alternative to buying Zane's jig (and getting his instructions) is to buy the FO4 manual (if you don't have one) and use their instructions that don't require a jig. They just (from all I've heard) require trial and error until you finally get it right. That means you have to remove the lift cover each time that you have to refine the adjustments using the FO4 manual. You really don't want to do that more than once!! It's just too heavy to mess with any more than you absolutely have to.

So options are to buy Zane's jig/instructions and adjust it correctly the first time or use the FO4 manual instructions and hope for the best.

And yes, to answer your question, the lift cover needs to be removed to get to the lift adjustment points.

(I bought the jig!!)
