Wanting to do a 12 volt system on my VAC will a 63 amp work to keep the battery charged

In my opinion you would be better off with a smaller amp unit. I usually try to use 35 amp alternators - they are plenty big enough.

It ll work just fine. Or you could get a 6 volt 10SI alternator, the 130 farmall I just bought has one on it.

63 amp is the maximum rated output of the alternator and will only be attained at maximum rated RPM and maximum rated load on the alternator, neither of which will ever be reached on a VAC or any tractor of that era.

63 amp is probably twice the capability it will ever need on a tractor which will occur right after it starts as the alternator recharges what was used by the starter. After that it will only need to supply current for the ignition, lights, and a small charge to the battery. The regulator will control alternator output to match that demand so most of the time the alternator will be "coasting".
