4020 starter question

a friend of mine called and said 4020 wouldn't start turn key on gauges come on hit starter button nothing happens power ok to and from button to solenoid shorted across solenoid and tractor started up but starter doesn't shut off stays engaged my question is the solenoid bad 24 volt system

On the starter not engaging when pushing button check neutral start switch on RH side of trans case.
It has been discussed on this forum that low battery voltage can cause starter solenoid to stick. I know that the copper washer and stud post inside solenoid can get pitted from arcing and cause sticking.
