Years ago I owned a White plow. It was a semi mounted 14 or 16 inch. It was a 4,5 or 6 bottom plow. It was a square backed plow but not the square tube like the 508 plow. The square on this plow looked like two pieces of channel iron stacked and welded together. It had square sharp corners not rounded like tubing is. It was a Red plow without any green under the red paint.

I replaced all the point, shears and landslides when I bought it. I never had it set up as a 6 bottom plow because the 6th moldboard was cracked.

I used it as a 4 bottom behind my Oliver 1655 and as a 5 behind a JD 4020. I loved how it would lay sod ground over so smooth. Like a fool I had it all in good shape and a fellow offered me twice what I had in the plow so I sold it.

This would have been in the early 1990s. I was not plowing much by then. Now I have some work to do that I want to plow the ground and build my own terraces/water dams. So I am looking for another one of these plows.

I do not need or want an auto reset plow. Toggle is fine for my use.

Can't remember the model number of the plow. I thought it was a 448 plow but I do not see any advertised with that model number. I know it was not a 500 number like a 508 or 588. The top frame tube is different. I also do not want an 18 or 20 inch bottom. I want to plow 16 inch with a 4 or 5 bottom plow. I would even buy an older 14 inch one and switch it. I more than likely will take it all apart anyway to free up all the trips and such. Would love the curved coulters but good cover boards work OK too.

Any guesses on what I need to look for???

I had a 546 plow that had the backbone made up of two channel irons welded together. Mine was 6x, with hydraulic reset. All that is left of it here is the accumulator. If anyone needs it, make me an offer.

The 448 & 449 plows were trailer plows. If I remember correctly, the 548 was the first of the plows with the tube frame. The earlier model[pre 548,508] would have been a 546, then earlier 575, 565 etc. With the exception of the 565 and 575, all these plows were available as auto reset or cushion trip.

a 565 has a beam like you describe but everyone I ever saw was Oliver green. Saying that they are a very good older plow and are 14/16. With the long molboards they almost plow things too black.

Not sure if they all kept the same numbers when they turned red, but we've got a 565 and a 546. Both are 4 bottom backbones. The 565 was never painted red as that was a model from the 60's. it the 546 has a slightly heavier backbone and has some red parts on it from the junk yard. I thought they came off a 506 white plow.

Both of ours have channel iron boxed backbones.

We have two in the barn like you describe. One is 5x14 and the other is 6x14. Both are painted red and are 565 plows.

THANKS GUYS!!!! I looked at a 565 plow on the Internet. That is the model I had. They where red with White decals on them. They did not look to have been repainted but maybe they where. I don't care as I will be using them on a Oliver 1655 most of the time.

Now I just had to find a good set of 4x16 plows. Would love the dished rolling coulters rather than cover boards.

Maybe someone who knows more about these things could correct me, but I'm sure any 16" Oliver/White semi mount would have the same bottom that you had. I think a 549 was the newest version capable of 16".
