Not really familiar with MF diesels but trying to help BIL with his. Blow up the battery today while he was shredding. He tells me it's just one big 12 volt battery. Going to check it out tomorrow any tips or common issues that would cause this?

Vibration is bad for batteries, could just have been a plate vibrated loose, and shorted the battery. Check the electrical system for over charging the new one. Shouldn't charge more than 14-15 Volts, on a dead battery. If it's higher than that have a shop bench test the alternator.

Think it's a ground issue cables don't have bAre spots but are chafed. The negative post was melted.
