Hi im rebuilding a perkins AD3 152 and after fitting new liners and pistons i have found the piston is 0.005" above the block face at TDC.??
Is this a problem or normal.?
Is there a thicker head gasket to overcome this.?
I havent refaced the block but it could of been done sometime in the past.

Spec says .001 below to .004 above. I wouldn't worry about .001. If I was worried a good smooth flat file would take care of the problem in a few seconds.

Thank you.
Can i just confirm your talking about Piston protrusion and not Liner protrusion.
The Piston is the issue.
Sorry for questioning you i want be sure before i put the head back on.

Don't know if you can read this or not but the manual clearly states piston crown and also says new pistons sometimes have to be machined to meet that spec. I have never personally run into a set that had to be machined. Some engines do have different thicknesses of head gaskets to compensate for piston protrusion but I don't think these do.
