ive had a 630 gas tractor for awhile now, Its been sitting since last fall, not stuck, I rebuilt the clutch today, rebuilt the sediment bowl filter, did the brakes, put new fluids in, changed the oil filter, the battery in it didn't look great so I had a strong 12v in the shed, hooked it up with tight connections and I hit the starter button and I can only hear the starter try to kick in once, and that's barely, then nothing at all, as if I don't even have a battery in the tractor at all. Tractor has a generator, and I have the battery hooked up positive ground. Is there a fuse somewhere or? I really stink at electrical troubleshooting but maybe someone can help me!

tractor hss a solenoid starter and it appears your starter spline may have debrie and it is not going in enough for contact...take the flywheel cover off and get some brake cleaner and blow out the spline....also get some electrical cleaner and spray out the solenoid...don"t use the brake cleaner there....then try....zzheezammmm

Do you have power to the solenoid after pushing starter button(it might have lost contact from sitting)? If not this, maybe solenoid is not activating for some reason (they do stick)-remove starter (if all else fails) and take to a good shop. Make sure if starter kicks in and releases when starting engine is accomplished. Wait till flywheel is stopped before trying to start again or you could break the starter nose possibly (hard to find and expensive). I know-I bought a tractor with a bad starter nose and had to replace it(ouch).

Is your Tractor ground into the frame? if so tap out threads good and clean the bolt and lube it up and put it back on and see if that is it. My 2 cents worth.

Pull the plate off the bottom, under the starter, pull the mouse nest out and try it.

Classic symptoms of a neglected ground system if you ask me. Get on the starter mounting bolts with an open end/box end wrench and tap on the open end with a hammer till you tweak them a bit tighter. Take off the battery ground cable and take the cable end to a wire wheel and clean the rust off it. Small angle grinder for the mounting pad (hopefully it's the main case) and buff off the bolt too. Back together with a little grease to keep the rust away and tighten the bejeebies out of it. Now what happens?

My 530 was giving me issues a few years ago if I tapped the solenoid with hammer lightly it may go just hanging up. I ended up just changed it. Can still get it from Deere and takes maybe 30 minutes. Really easy.

The slide bendix gets infiltrated with dirt and debrie, keeps it from going into the flywheel thus the internal main starter connection cannot be made...pretty simple...you can do brain surgery and remove the starter but you may want to try the spray fix first. Also the ring gear can get chewed up not allowing the bendix to engage..with a small grinding disc you can renew bevel the teeth or here again brain surgery remove the flywheel and replace the ring...I'd rather try simple tricks first...

Turn the lights on , if they are bright hit the starter button , if they go out you have a cable, or battery problem .
